Fewer symptoms for mpox infection seen after vaccination

People with mpox an infection ≥14 days after receipt of 1 JYNNEOS vaccine dose have much less hospitalization, fever, headache, malaise, myalgia, and chills in contrast with unvaccinated people, in response to analysis revealed within the Dec. 30 situation of the U.S. Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Jennifer L. Farrar, M.P.H., from the CDC Mpox Emergency Response Group, and colleagues describe the demographic and scientific traits of mpox instances occurring ≥14 days after receipt of 1 dose of the JYNNEOS vaccine and in contrast them to traits of unvaccinated individuals with mpox. The evaluation included 6,605 mpox instances throughout Could 22 to Sept. 3, 2022, with obtainable vaccination data.

The researchers discovered that general, 276 instances (4.2 %) occurred amongst individuals who had obtained one dose of vaccine ≥14 days earlier than onset of sickness. Mpox instances that occurred in vaccinated people versus unvaccinated people had been related to a decrease share of hospitalization (2.1 versus 7.5 %), fever, headache, malaise, myalgia, and chills.

“Though an infection ≥14 days after receipt of 1 JYNNEOS vaccine dose is rare, the incidence of such instances and the unknown length of safety conferred by one vaccine dose highlights the necessity for suppliers and public well being officers to encourage completion of the two-dose vaccination sequence amongst individuals in danger,” the authors write.
